In college (high school americans call it?) yuo get EMA(Education Maintainance Allowance) for attending college, you don't get paid unless your in the whole week. Unlike this system your talking about it doesn't tackle grades so you could get slacking students getting rich fast lol.

Personally I don't think money should be a motivator in early teens where is the passion to learn :arf: , really, these kinds of things get people learning to pass exams but not to remember and really understand their subject.

Fastforward 10 years, they hate thier jobs and everyone in their department, only the pay cheque keeps them there. THERE IS NO PASSIIONNNNN

Of course this doesn't apply to everyone :p

o_O Is there really this situation in the US? ...I'd never thought about it (in Europe they always make fun of us, but what you're talking about is worse =P). How could this happen? I thought Washington was a pretty rich city...
Anyway, I agree with you, imho this isn't the right solution. Government could spend those money to improve schools' livability instead :/

D.C have one of the highest paying job, that doesn't require a degree of somesort, but that is ONLY in the good side of D.C...where all the businesses are. But there is also the ghetto part of D.C, and thats the type of school I was describing.

not so much many realities as much as there is just a wide range of the one reality, if that makes any sense. :arf:

WTF? I WISH I GOT MONEY.

I get a freaken 95% average in highschool just so I'm allowed to go out at night.

If I was given money, I would get 120%...

wish i got paid 100 dollars for good behavior and good grades... however the only problem i can think about it is wheres the money coming from tax payers money etc etc? and what about the school bully who would ruin it for someone else by picking on them starting a fight with them making them have bad behavior??

Well, I'm from South Africa, so maybe I'm a little bit backwards, but I think kids, young[ish] kids getting paid getting paid to go to school and get good grades is absolute [nasty word]..

It's bad preparation for later in life.. your boss isn't going to pay you extra for coming to work, or doing your work well.. if you don't show up you get fired. point.

I don't think it's motivational at all.. in the end, it's just going to make kids even less managable..

though, that being said, I wish I'd gotten paid for staying in school [though no amount of cash could've made me study during my Matric year]

the funds are coming from the tax payers, meaning us.
so right now, your tax is being use to pay those dumbass kids :yup:

Although I'm only in high school, it doesn't seem fair some middle school kids are able to get money for excelling both grades and behavior wise. We're paying for it, and it seems like more of an incentive for kids to cheat 0.o

Yes,later in life they are going to be less likely to do hard tasks without getting a direct "reward".

    I think it's a good idea!
Here, the state pays us (when we're 18+) around 100$ a month for going to school n__n
It keeps kids/young people in school, and when you go to school you don't have that much time to work, so I think it's a good idea to keep them focused on their homework. I myself couldn't concentrate before I turned 18 and had a job + school D:
