So, today was a nice beautiful sunny day that was quite windy.

There was a power outage around noon. My computer was on but I wasn't doing anything so, of course with all the other electrical things, it lost it's power. Well, four hours later, I was working on a picture in Photoshop when we had yet, another power outage because of the caking wind.

    The stupid computer crashed.

It said a file in the system was corrupt or something.

I did NOT wipe and reload my computer (although it's something I wanted to do for the past few days but was wondering if I had anything IMPORTANT on my computer) but I did have to delete the partition (whatever the cake that means) and make a new one.

    XP has now reinstalled itself.

    One question:

Are all my files still on here?

Normally, common sense would tell me no, but years ago I had TWO windows on here. 98 and XP. I don't know how I did it but I did, but I removed one but the option to start up on either one was always there. After trying to start up normally on XP, I decided to give it a go from the windows 98 and it said "wrong disk" blah blah blah but I put it in anyway.. so, anyway.. are all my files on here somewhere?

I am prety sure you lost all the data, you should;ve made a new partition then installed xp on the new partition not the old one. It might still be there, but I wouldn't be so sure

I think it said "press *whatever button it said" if you want to add another partition and I tried that it wouldn't so I had no choice..

    ahh well..

I guess starting off fresh won't be so bad..

It reverts back to the original XP(like no data of course) after it reinstalled. You should have backed up your files if you wanted on another partition and reinstall on the old one. Then you can transfer your files back.

To me, i think its lost. And since you deleted your windows 98, u need the 98 disk to be able to start it up. But i don' think your files will be on there.

This has also hapened to me, once I just turned on my old pc and some file was corrupted (more precisely missing, according to the guys who tried to fix it), and I almost lost everything.
They had to connect the hard drive to another PC of them and LAN connect both PCs, and they were able to transfer the files to their PC, then to my new pc. Happy ending, though cake happens sometimes :|

lol It's times like these where I wish I had friends who had PC knowledge.

I got over it, though. It's a fresh start and my computer's running a lot faster now. ;-)
