I'm not sure if this will work for everybody, but if you turn off the main power bar controlling modem and everything and wait atleast 10 seconds and turn it back on, your IP address should change.

Let me explain in detail. IPs that can change just by simply turning on and off for a few seconds, a called dynamic IPs. These are broadband connections connected via modem. Internet providers often renew them frequently.

IPs that cannot change via such a simple method are called static IPs. They do not allow IP change unless suited so. If you are desperate to change to a dynamic ip, contact your internet provider or internet administrator.

So it is not a matter of location.

(read first if you are lost: IP stands for Internet Protocol, all internet connections have one, it is the address used to locate your computer internet service. Do not give out your IP freely, as hackers may use this information against you (DDoSing, infiltration, etc.)

I'm well aware of what you are saying... my point was that here in quebec, the only compagny that offers cable modem does not allow dynamic IPs, only static, so trying to disconnect the modem was quite pointless....

Doesn't work for most cable companies, like Comcast (which is what I have.) For me, I have to call in and get them to change it. I think I can only do it like once a month.
