I have a download manager that i have been downloading dvd iso files(aka huge 5 gb files) since it takes so long to download, i have been pausing it when i go to bed and starting it again in the morning. do you think that all of the pauseing and restarting could cause some files to be skipped or corrupted?

I do it all the time, sometimes I close the program for weeks at a time and then start it again and they all end up fine for me

No it shouldn't do anything to them, but why don't you just use torrents? Easier and more memory efficient. Download managers really don't speed up downloads at all, some just allow you to pause/start them.

torrents are slower for me too.. sometimes up to 5kbps..
my download manager (flashget) has a semi-fixed download rate of 40-60kbps which i am very satisfied with. :D

Some Torrents need lots of SEEDs to be able to download fast, like.. if it's a 1GB file, and only 2 people are SEEDing it, it'll take forever!

yeah, and torrents are p2p right? so its usually infested with viruses.. (at least from my own experience)

uh, i use broadband. its supposed to be a 512kbps package, but in reality its much slower than that.

Yeah, there can be viruses, but with my experience, it's very VERY rare.. for me, at least.

Anyone who's getting a lower download rate using torrents rather than HTTP link has a few problems:

    1. Bad site: The seeders have poor connections, causing you to download at a slow rate
    2. Port Forwarding: Your ports aren't forwarded properly, aka they're closed, so the traffic that is able to connect to your computer connects at a very slow rate. Let me know if you want to learn how to forward your ports properly.
    3. No/Low Seeders: This one doesn't apply in all situations, because connecting to ONE seeder can get you up to 500kbs, but if there's not enough seeders on some files they'll download slowly.

If anyone wants to know anything about torrents let me know.

Yeah, I love torrents, can become insanely fast when downloading, making a single movie (700MB-1GB+) downloadable in like 20 minutes, or less.

do you think that my internet connection speed will effect the download rate? if it isnt a big factor, i might start using torrents more.
