I have been shopping for laptops and looking for the best prices. i was wondering if laptops come in quadcore and if so, how much are they?
My only Q would be: do you need a quadcore ? Overkill for the common user, hell, I'm a programmer/3d design/sound editing guy and the dual core is doing the job just fine (running msn, winamp, 4-5X internet explorer pages, tv-tuner, burning a dvd, ALL AT THE SAME TIME while running VB.net minimized so I can finally finish that 3d model in carrara) don't waste money for this, instead, invest in a battery that will run for more than an hour and a half. And yes, you can find a quadcore laptop if you want.
Someone told me that quadcores aren't currently good for games. Is this true? I wanted to buy one and almost changed my mind.
I think the problem is that they're not optimize for quadcore. It's like trying to run a 8cpus server with 64g of ram with windows 95
since thourax you are experienced with computers, could you tell me the difference between dual core and dual core2 and dual core extreme?
first, your mixing stuff a bit. Core2 is a brand name by intel. You can have Core2 solo, duo, quad each of those being subdivise in series. There's no dual core extreme, only core2 extreme, and this is for high perf. pc. difference between 2 cores and 4: Well, obviously, there's the number of cores, but biggest change comes in performance and l2 cache having 12mb for the quad. Beside this, they all have the same technology and instruction. the quad core xtreme mainly add a 1600MHz FSB (up from 1333). I don't have numbers with me but all those cpus being in the same series, they're almost identical as far as technology go. The only thing changing is speed. This being said, I'll repeat myself by saying that all this speed is nothing if you don't run the right os with the right hardware. running a quad extreme with 1600 FSB using 266MHz ddr is a waste of money. Using 4gig ram with xp too. So to ask your question: they do have quad core laptop, but they cost to much for what you may need if what you seek is the best price.
If its just an everyday use laptop, single core will suit you just fine. But everything is so cheap nowadays, might as well go dual-core Let's see... 2.1 ghz dual core processor 2 GB RAM for winXP, 4 gb RAM for vista you'll probably want a 15+" screen
