After two months of being gone from my most beloved laptop and the internet it's always on, I've returned from Basic Training. Nine long weeks in South Carolina's hot heat, money in my bank, and some fancy uniforms. That's what I got out of my summer. Hanging out in North Carolina right now, talking with old friends in my old neighborhood. Somehow I got level two while I was gone, but I have no complaints. =) It's good to be back, I see some new faces on NF.net. How has everything been while Ive been gone?
Welcome Back! I have been having fun here but it has been a little unactive for my taste. You get new post to reply to about every 3 days or so. I have been trying to get us new members but so far no one has been active =/
*watches tumbleweed roll by* Annnyhoo, welcome back guy I've never met before! 9 weeks of "basic training"? What exactly are you training to become? o_o I'm gonna take a wild guess and say... the marines or something?
Phee: Training was in South Carolina in July / August, it was hot as hell. I did not enjoy being outside, ever. And we were always outside. Other than that, the training was enjoyable and I had some good laughs at the expense of others. And I got paid to do it. Ate, slept, and traveled at government expense - coming home with a little over two thousand dollars to figure out how to spend. I'd do it again.
National Guard, it's between the reserves and the Army in usefulness. I'm just staying in until after I get out of college, and I'll be switching to the real Army in active duty. I've been told that it's possible to change contracts from Guard to the real Army, so we'll see in four to five years if I can't. If not... well, I only have an eight year contract. I can change after that.
They should join as soon as they can. =) The enlistment bonuses are already shrinking, a bit. When I joined, 63B (All Wheel Mechanic) got 20k. Now, most people get about 15k for that same job. I figure it wouldn't be the only one doing that... so be sure to prod them. Do the smart ones a favor, send them to Chair Force. It's the better option, even with it being downsized.
