A couple years back I remember hearing about some new advances in computing, namely the two in the title of this post. I haven't heard anything else about them and was wondering if any of you knew anything.
If you're not sure what I'm talking about, the holographic hard drives would be a new form of storage where, instead of storing bits of information as magnetic or optical changes on a drive, they are stored as images on a drive and multiple images can be stored in one area using different angles of light. Essentially, you could have 1,000 hard drives in one or something like that.
The laser processors would be new processors that used beams of light instead of electricity (which makes the chip hot) to process things. This would basically eliminate heating problems and unlock a whole new level of computing power.
Anyway, I know this all sounds very sci-fi and all, but I swear it's true!
