I went out to this restaurant for my birthday, we were there for maybe 30 minutes but the meal came up to 100$. Now because of my family, Ive been taught to tip the proper 15% (at least where Im from its considered the norm). So it came up to 115$ [...] I find thats a lot, 15$ for 30 minutes. All we did was order from the main menu, no deserts, no extra stuff. So question is how much do you normally tip if you have a good server? EDIT: Can someone please move this or delete this from the general thread for neopets I meant to put it in the plain General life one. Sorry.. :nope:
I always do 15% aswell, when the bill exceeds 100 it always seems like a lot, unless they did something special. Biggest bill I had was 370 for a birthday aswell, sucked paying such a high tip. Most restaraunts charge you 18% if you have more then 8 guests (they charge it on the bill)
Eww.. 370!!! thats crazy. I remember one time we had a horrible waitress. I was with a group of friends (at least 8 of us) at Lone Star and we only decided to tip her a dime for the whole table. Looking back on it now I realize how rude that was...
i just tip 15%. unless we buy like a really expensive bottle of wine, and the waiter doesnt really "deserve" that extra tipping

You already told them once and they edited their post asking for it to be moved... You all tip 15%? You'll think I'm mean then.. We just do 10%, sometimes less, depending on how much they've had to do for us. It's not such a big thing here in the UK though. To be honest, tipping is pretty ridiculous. It just seems like a way for you to pay the restaurant staff's wages, instead of the actual restaurant. Because they know people will tip, they probably pay the staff less and let us make up the difference.
aye i never tip I usually remove the tip from the bill If the meal is say $100 and they charge me $108 including 8% tip I give them $100 Not paying of that crap For taxis ill round it up If its like £12.50 i'll give them £13 etc
Never realized you could pay less when they include the tip in the bill Good one I normally just round it up a bit, so that it's around 3-5% tip. I dislike tips, it's not that a surgeon gets tipped for doing an good surgery or a baker for making good bread... I hate to give people free money. But that's just probably my thoughts.
Serious 15%?! Here it's always just 10% or well most of the people here pays 10% tip. But yes my boyfriend and I tip the right amount. It just doesn't seem right that people were serving you nicely and you give them a crappy tip. Maybe they will have a poster up at the kitchen with our faces and spit on our food next time we come or something :maha: But bad servers on the other hand..we put down jack LOL. Still something..
Well like someone said, does the nurse get tipped for saving your life, no? so why should a fail drop out of college get tipped for carrying a plate /rant
lol, acually, where i live, alot of waiters wait part time while going to college. the norm here is 15-20 % if its good. if not 10-15 %. i've had horrible before, left nothing. if they don't really do their job, they should get paid anything. The reason for tips is the make your waiter do his job well, but of course here, theres alot of compition for waiter jobs. its good money if your in high school or college. being a waiers not easy either. try walking around for 6 hours straight, not easy. /end rant
I actually listened to a couple things about tipping on the radio recently (on NPR if anyone is interested) and they said that the norm has now shifted from 15% to closer to 20% for decent service. Also, how can you people not tip your waiters/waitresses? Are you people really that ignorant? Waiters/waitresses generally make about $2.15-$3.50 an hour without tips...yes, that is FAR below minimum wage. Guess what, it's completely legal because the restaurants figure tip into their wages. You people who don't tip disgust me. You aren't giving them extra money, you are providing them just enough so that they make minimum wage...MINIMUM WAGE! Jesus Christ! /rant...unless there are people out there who, in light of this information, still think that it is unfair to tip waiters...
That's interesting :yup: We don't actually tip by our own wills in Taiwan.... We are forced to tip 10% when having meals in certain restaurants if not all. (The final price automatically includes tips)
i always tip 20% but you gotta watch out sometimes the restaurant figures the tip into the bill before you get it
Well, unless the service is REALLY REALLY crappy, I always tip 15% =/ Unless they add that on the tab... Cheats >.>
