i recently got an Acer laptop which has Harddisk Security... it has a windows vista sticker on it so im guessing thats the operating system installed.... anyway i want to format the hard drive and get rid of the hard disk security so i need a boot disk... i also have to put a program called 'mhd3' on the boot disk to remove the harddisk security before i format... does anyone know wat kind of bootdisk i need and were i can download it from?? can i use win xp cd to boot??
That's not something you can find easy. Ask somebody that is related to a computer shop or something.
i have the program 'mhd3' all i need to know is were i can get a boot cd and how i can load that program onto the same cd..
I can't be certain because I don't know the type of security on the disc but I see no reason why you can't just load an old DOS OS then format and load your preferred OS. Worse comes to worse you can try holding an industrial magnet over the disc for a while before formating...make sure to take the drive out of the computer first. Now if it' some kind of hardware key type encryption then you're probably just screwed. If you have a second computer and know how to use bit torrent: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3661881/Vis ... ble_off_CD Most likely it's virus free but I can't confirm that, or if it works but you'll likely find something on thepiratebay.org As to how to get that file on the disc you have to know where it belongs first. If the file off the pirate bay is in a .ISO file format or something simular simply open it up with a burning program such as Nero or Daemon Tools and add it into where it should be on the disc before buring. If you are unsure just try the root directory...where that is for Vista I'm not sure and I"m too lazy to look. If you're confused then just burn it to a CD/DVD if it's working then make it into a .ISO, I this Nero can do that, and go from there. Anyway gl, it sounds like it's gonna be fun XD.
thank you... but it wont even boot from cd... its a laptop and as soon as u turn it on it says it has hard drive protection and asks u for password... i went into bios and chose boot from cd but it never gets to that stage... always go to the password screen first... im thinking of removing the hard drive from the laptop and just buying a new one...
you may have to do that but did you read the part where I suggested you try wiping the hard disk with a magnet or if you have another rig then try formating it with that computer I'm confused, if the boot chain is CD/floppy , hard disk drive, then in no way should any protection on the HD play into you try to boot up your computer. I'm not saying boot to windows using the OEM disk. You have to boot to DOS or something similar. If you can access the bios it can't be a bios PW so I'm certain you should be able to access the HD somehow. Who knows what inventive method is used to protect it though. anyway try this before paying money if you do pay money check out http://www.newegg.com
