Initializing a DVD-RW Disc

Recently, my dad bought a new DVD player to record TV, but when I put the disc in it says I need to initialize it. Anybody know how to do this?

 

i am not sure but i might be able to help you. first, what dvd types does your recorder burn and are the disks dvd-rw or dvd+rw

 

Thanks for offering the help, but I got it to work...it was dvd-rw BTW...all i had to do was put the disk in and hit initialize HAHA

 

lol. and i thought you bought the wrong type of disk..
