Okay so I have an iPod Touch G2. I have like eighty of the older cables but I lost the one that came with the iPod *pokes below*. Is there any way to get the older cables (like gen 1 or 2 nano) to work with syncing my iPod? :/

Uhm. The right side is always the same. That is a USB port that goes into say your computer or a battery pack. The left side is very much the same. The only difference is the white part doesn't have clips and it is smaller. It goes into the same place. Did you even try the other cables because this is a pretty dumb question from my understanding of what you are asking.

That is the Sync Cord that comes with the iPod Nano. Notice how the non-USB ends are almost the same. xD

... I'm not retarded. Yes, I know that the USB port is the same as we as the missing buttons on the end that connects to the iPod. Normally, when I sync my iPod up with my 2.0 version, it will make a beep, then show up on iTunes. Now, it makes three low beeps and doesn't register on iTunes at all. Not even a charging status on my iPod. The iPod charges fine on my iHome, but I can't get any connection though the older cables.

Oh okay, I thought you meant it wouldn't even go into your iPod. Make sure your iTunes is updated. I don't really know the answer to your question.

i can't think of a reason why it wouldn't though.
Cuz when I bought my 3rd gen ipod nano, it still worked cuz when I need it, I just grab any white ipod cable =P And two of them are from the older ipods.
it shouldn't have changed for the ipod touch, cuz as far as i'm concerned there are sound docks out there that can play stuff from all kinds of ipod so the plug part HAS to be the same.

are you saying that your computer doesn't recognize it? :/

    Maybe your cable is damaged.

Please please please don't ever buy cables at big stores like Worst Buy or Future Crap. Or Circrap city.

    www.dealextreme.com

They sell cables for like 3 bucks on there. Free worldwide ship, paypal accepted. I've ordered from them countless times. always happy with my ordar.

lol my 2nd gen nano just decided to stop being recognized by my computer a couple months ago
it would still charge when plugged in, but wouldnt show up in itunes or my computer or anything
so eventually i got bored with not being able to put new music on it & let it die
& when i plugged it in a month later (battery was dead so i couldnt turn it on otherwise) it decided to work again...
but i don't think that really answers your question?
unless you wanna just let your iphone die and see if that helps :D

My iPod doesn't charge when connected to my computer, but it does on my dock. The point of saying this is I know that the port on my iPod is still working. I'm not sure if it's my computer or the cable. xD

You try to restart the iPod?

The iPod Touch and iPhone restart by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake and Home button simultaneously...

Hmm that's so odd. Maybe it's the cable. If you have a few, try all of them.
Or try restarting everything. iPod, computer, etc.
One way you can tell if it's the cable though, is if you can use it on another computer.
I can't see why it's the cable, unless they really changed it for the itouch. Cuz I use old cables all the time.

wow... I'm having a hard time believing that quicktime would effect your ability to charge it.
It should charge even if you have no operating system on your computer lol...as long as there's an electric current flowing through your comp I think some of it is routed to the usb ports
