I find my mind to be very naive and superficial thing. I assume that most join this website because they enjoy playing with neopets, but most would agree that the beneficial fruits of playing in such a world is nonexistent. Despite this acknowledgement of Neopets' utter uselesssness, there are still things that captivate us to it. Perhaps maternal instincts or the feeling of power we get by earning money (aka neopoints). Why is that we participate in neopets and should we continue?

It's a hard question to answer.. I just like having a realm where I can make an infinte amount of money (neopoints) as it's never going to happen in real life :p. I think it's popular because goals on it are achievable, more so than in real life. Say you have a goal to get a particular item on neopets, you can work towards it whilst entertaining yourself on the site. In real life however, if you really want something, you have to work to earn the moolah for it. Not so much fun :p

People participate in neopoints for power and money, yet if you think about it at base 1, most of us do not have real power or millions of dollars/pounds, so people participate in neopets because the fact of achieving a certain amount of neopoints will make you feel superior than others. Also, there's lot of things to do with your neopoints at neopets :)

Not to be offensive I find it completely useless to write like that. You use too many adjectives that aren't needed. Just make it simple, i don't like when people try to sound overly complex by saying things like 'beneficial fruits' when benefits would do.

your right. Maybe I've delved myself into too much rhetoric and developed a jargin that is somewhat excessive.

for th sake of my pride, i feel like i have to defend myself. Just because you add adjectives, doesn't mean the words are inefficient. I hope that although words may sound excessive, that every word tell. There are different feelings you get from different words, and i feel that having proper and eloquent writing is much more economic and civilized then crude acronyms.
I do admit though i am a bit excessive sometimes.

Well i can tell you that if you quoted this paragraph and gave it to an english major they would shoot it down. This happens a lot in society, it all started with mathematicians and scientists doing lab write ups. I admit i do it myself, but you always see people write things like "due to the fact" instead of because... they try to sound smarter. See right there i could have said, this is their vain attempt to emit an aura of intelligence from their non-creative sense of writing and blunt over-use of adjectives. But which one got the point across better, that or "because they try and sound smarter". Your main purpose is to get the point across, for example "and i feel that having proper and eloquent writing is much more economic and civilized then crude acronyms." In my opinion is not a needed sentence and doesnt make sense. Saying both proper and eloquent is not necessary only one is required, and economic is a terrible word to use there. Civilized i understand but saying crude acronyms is a misinterpretation of what i said, i never mentioned acronyms being good.

unskillful12 you're right. Thank you for your truth. I know from first hand experience what you're talking about. I'll try to condense my writing.
