..I know obviously you can get wireless internet, but could I say, with my modem being on the landing and my PC in my room, put something in the modem ethernet port and something in my PC and connect wirelessly? Or am I going to have to buy a wireless modem thing and a wireless ethernet bridge, which seems expensive...
Just get a router and hook it up to your modem. Then get a wireless adapter for your PC and you're good to go.
X 2 a kit like this one would do the job just fine... And I'm sure you can get better deal by searching around http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8561736193
Thanks thats exactly what I need! =) Do you think I could connect my 360 to the internet for live play with this USB wireless connection?
probably not. for that you would need a separate adapter. the bad thing is that theyre $100 no matter which brand you go with
You can buy a wrt54g version 4.0 and below and flash it with ddwrt firmware, or any other ddwrt capable routers for that matter will work. Use it as a wireless bridge to your regular router, and you can connect an ethernet cord from it into your pc/xbox and get internet that way. This is good for people without wireless on their pcs or xbox 360s that dont have wireless adaptors. The connection essentially goes from your cable modem, to your wireless router, to your ddwrt wireless router, then through the ethernet port to your xbox to get you a wired connection wirelessly, just ask you asked!
