    But on topic:
I would choose neither. Macs are ridiculously expensive, plus I've had bad experiences with them. Dells are expensive and there are much cheaper alternatives that are just as good, or even better.

Well, I have a Dell, but the computer I use the most is my HP.

Go buy an HP, they're rather affordable and with my experiences, they work rather well.

Or get a Compaq. I like my Compaq PC, and it was fairly cheap.

A Dell or Mac... both= :nope:

Go with an HP or build your own PC, you'd be rather surprised how affordable it can be when you know what you want your computer to specifically do for you.

yeah i just got a dell xps 1330, with the upgrades and i spent like 2000 on it....

but dell is HORRIBLE to deal with, they absolutly suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck in customer service, and i had so many problems, i HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE THEM SO MUCH.

dont buy a dell, even if their machinese seem good, once they break down, it will be such a big hassel.

Go to you futureshop, bestbuy, etc. and buy an HP or something, or go build your own computer, and make sure you have an extended warranty on it, so when something breaks down (and something ALWAYS does) you can be covered.

once again: I HATE DELL SO MUCH

o and i dont like macs, ppl who have em try to be individualistic with them, but its a mainstream product and its expensive, not worth it.

Customer support will be bad pretty much no matter the company. If you are needing computer tech support I would see what kind of 1st/3rd party repair/support you have physically located in your area. It's always better when you can talk to someone face to face. Make sure it accepts whatever warranty/repair contract you'd have.

Macs are overpriced for what they offer and the hardware is pretty locked in. Software selection is still limited. Very easy to use.

Dell/HP/Compaq are all pretty much on the same level. Their quality following a yo-yo so read up on the current trend before deciding which one you are going to pick. Vista is crap but XP is being phased out, if you have no computer experience you should probably get Vista, just be aware it's a piece of shit.

let me second that I have had good experiences with Acer, specifically ordered from Newegg.com but keep in mind you will probably get less support then HP or Dell, not a big deal if you know much about computers as their support is generally pretty useless. Also I've found Asus pretty solid as well.
