What's the difference between XP and vista, like
I have both, XP on my computer, and Vista on my
Laptop, but the only difference I notice is the colour
of the tool bar and browsers an stuff... anybody care
    to elaborate or discuss this??

I heard Vista takes up very little memory in comparison and runs of less electricity (but.. I don't get this? How does it do that?).

    I'm not 100% sure though.

You can get Internet Explorer 7 and the newest version of Windows Media Player. And there are other functions too but I can't remember. O.O; But I did read that is was worth buying. :)

vista is supposed to revolutionize the operating systems of windows. It takes very little memory and has a 3D like atmosphere

Vista takes much more memory than XP.

Its minimum requirements are at least double that of xp.

Vista is essentially windows xp with lots of bugs, drm and some pretty new graphics.

Drm is especially worrying. It may let you rip a cd but delete the songs a day later without your consent. Or not let you move certain files onto an mp3 player.

We will all have to move to vista eventually, but im going to avoid the expensive bloated mess for as long as I can.

yeah. vista is expensive now. and it just released which means that all software have to be converted to vista-compatible. it's better to wait a few months to have that compatibility or else you wouldn't have much to do with vista

    Little memory? °_______°
Vista requires a minimum of 1 giga of RAM!!! Vista has the useless 3d screen and a lot of other things you can see in wikipedia.
A characteristic is that you can't use the administrator modality freely, but only the user modality.
Then if you want use p2p you have to create a partition.

Id be careful about upgrading from windows XP to Vista because your system and software have to be 64 bit not 32 bit like most standard operating systems are at the moment. Be careful also that the software like the old 'office xp profession' and most software is designed for 32 bit not 64 bit.

You may find that if you update it'll seem slower than the standard Windows Xp Profession. If thats the case, it isn't a matter of false advertising, its because you have not done the research into the mechanics of how it runs. I wont be updating to Vista for at least 6 months until security patches and proper 64 bit software is released. Yes dont get me wrong, you can run 32 bit applications on a 64 bit processor but they wont be as efficient and you might find that your computer starts doing crazy stuff.

All I say is be careful and know what you're buying before you buy it. Looks are decieving and when its Microsoft in particular... Really do your research

Yeah, from what I have read on the web Vista is still filled with bugs that need to be fixed. IF you do decide to get it, just wait a while.

    That's illegal to do...lol

But anyways, Vista does take up more RAM, I guess if you have like 2gb of RAM it'll work just great, but I think Windows XP is much more stable right now, I'd wait a couple months for Vista to work out the kinks.

I was waiting for a topic like this, I'm getting a copy of windows vista for free (came with the laptop I bought) all i have to do is pay the mail tax or w/e its called. I also wanted to know if the Vista was gonna be good for gaming or not. Because thats all I pretty much do, and if it will find out if I am using WareZ and illegal copies of stuff. And about the privacy leak. Will vista be easier to see into other peoples files or will it make it harder. Is the vista control panel better? Is the security that comes with vista better than xp?

Those are all questions I have to think about before I go loading it into my computer, cause I don't wanna make the wrong decision.
