Hello all. I was using my desktop computer today, when all of a sudden my monitor turned black. The power light is still on, however. I checked the wire thing from the monitor to the CPU and it was secure. I unplugged and replugged everything back just incase, but my monitor still won't turn on. Is there any way to test if my monitor is simply broken or if it's just my CPU outlet plug thing that's broken? I was thinking about taking it to GeekSquad or something tomorrow, but I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to.

It's most likely a bad monitor. The same thing happened with my computer last year or so, and dad had to get me a new one.

You could try a new power cord though, but I highly doubt that the power cord is broken...

My dad works on computer for a living really..so..I'm pretty positive when I say it's the Monitor.

To me, the problem seem to be the video card, but since your writing here, I guess this can't be the issue ;) (or maybe you're using another computer)

with over 20 years using computers, I've rarely see a monitor gave up like that... but GPU, quite often.

So, just plug your monitor on another pc and check if it work. If it do work, check your video card. If not, change the monitor.

That should be about right. It also depends on your monitor, if its an ancient massive behemoth relic of a monitor than it might've just kicked the bucket. If its a new LCD screen monitor then check the video card.

I found a new monitor and just plugged it in. I could see everything, but when I booted up my computer, I got this blue screen and it said "boot volume error" or something like that. I tried it on safe mode and the same thing happened. Any help?
