Do you actually think that mp3s are a lot better than wmas because of their size? Then just think how good it is for your hard drive and your CDs if you make the size of your mp3s reduce to half of their original size, without losing a single bit of data! With MP3 Resizer, you can do it easily and quickly. Just open the program, click on the " + Add Files " icon, and browse trough your hard drive to select the mp3 file you want to resize. Once you do it, there's a sidebar in the right corner which will tell you its original size, and the reduced size, which is half of it! With the file selected and 10 seconds of your life, and obviously after clicking on the " Resize! " button, you can resize easily any mp3 file. Try it now, by downloading the program here: http://www.mymusictools.com/cgi-bin/dow ... musictools
No ways mate! Keeps the quality like the original, at least I tried with 1 song and it stayed the same!
I'm tempted, I dunno though. There has to be a catch, files can't just shrink and not lose anything. Sound quality would be my first guess, even if it wasn't by much it could still reduce the quality. Try it with a few more songs, tell us if the songs change at all. It seems like a good program, but I want to know what the side effects are before I try it. . Thanks for the program though mate.
Aye good idea there, I'll just add an original song and the reduced song on a free file host site so you can all listen to both versions
IF you are using the song on an ipod it wouldn't matter that much but on your steror you will notice a slight difference
And here they are, the same song in its original version and in its reduced version: Original Version: http://minorcrisis.net/files/Dignity3.mp3 Reduced Version: http://minorcrisis.net/files/Dignity2.mp3 I listened to it once again, and still didn't notice any difference, but that's maybe just the silly me, so I can't be 100% sure, ye mates try =) 2nd Post: goncalo - please don't double post - edit your first post instead - Marlene
I tried it with all my volume controls on my speakers to the max, it sounds just a little bit fuzzy, but other than that it seems fine. It's only fuzzy at the beginning. Not bad, not bad.
Hey thanks Goncalo for taking the effort of posting the two files onine. Great find, this can save me gigs of space.
nice. this'll save me a few hundred megs of space. although space dont matter to me that much. but i also hav an old computer so i gotta be carefull. thanks. but in the link for it , it sais trial?
There's got to be quality lost in the compression...how can you go from .mp3 to .mp3 and still have the same quality of sound but with a smaller file size? It's like going from a high quality jpeg to a low quality jpeg and saying they're the same.. On the other hand, if you have a player that can play ogg files then good on you, cause ogg retains quality while managing to shrink the file size
Yeah I just checked it out, the way it can reduce the size so dramatically is because it also decreases the bit rate by HALF. In the case of the song you posted, the original file has a 160kbps bitrate, decent quality for music. But when compressed, the file downgrades itself to 80kbps! That is terrible quality. I'm not entirely sure how you guys aren't hearing the INTENSE artifacting going on in the reduced version, but it is definitely there (throughout the entire song). I may just notice this because I'm an audiophile, but I think you all should be able to notice this as well. This is a great thing for people who can deal with terrible quality music, and it can save a large amount of space, but anyone who values their 320kbps music collection (or just those who appreciate great sound quality) shouldn't go near this.
Unless it encodes to a different format, i am truly in doubt that a song quality would not be compromised by a reduction in file size, bitrate determines the sound quality, so although it may sound the same it's possibly cause the unkeen ear is unable to discern the differences. interesting, nevertheless.
im also pointing out the possibility of achieving good quality sound at lower bitrate through other sound formats such as ogg which some claim are capable of producing better quality music then mp3's of larger size.
i didnt say the program did, i'm talking about how the sound may be compressed through other methods and then referring it back to the program as a speculation to how it might have achieved it. Which in this case i haven't tried and thus can not speak from experience and apoligise for causing confusion.
