im downloadin a few movies and such and some are .mpg...antivirus says its ok and properties shwos its just a video clip, so i'm thinking it shouldnt contain anything harmful to my pc right?? can any movie formats be harmfull?? like mpeg or mp3 mp4 stuff like that
If your antivirus says it's safe, it probably is (tell us your antivirus type though). Also, check the file size. If it's a bit fishy (too small or too large), don't run it. Try some online scanners on it to, but probably it's safe .
If Kaspersky is telling you it has nothing in it, it probably doesn't have anything in it . Anyways, if there is, you could just attempt to run a system scan.
real .mpg files are safe you could foreseeably change the extension on a .exe file, for example, but I don't think it'd work
if its a real mpg file its ok but it would be easy to just change the name of a virus and change its icon and make it look like one or even to bind a keylogger to it, then you could still use it but it would key log you... usually if its got a keylogger you will see an extra 2.5kb ish of data if you have some comparison
.mpg's are fine as long as they don't come with any add ware watch for having to run active x (little popup under address bar) alot of time its spy ware ext..... one good thing to do is system restore always works 4 me
im pretty sure mpg files cant contain a virus, just dont be stupid and download a 2 hour movie that is 30kb, because then its probably a virus. But, im pretty sure you can get some pretty nasty spyware from downloading those files, but im not sure
I would be careful alot of .Mpg files get edited with viruses. i use that kaspersky anti virus its a good one ------------------- my friend had that, they found out he downloaded it off limewire and they blacklisted his IP, now he cant use it O_O
I've download mpg video file in p2p a couple of time. Haven't encountered any problem or virus so far... Besides you can view the feedback of others who downloaded the file...
