This is my rig. Antec 900 Antec Truepower 650w EVGA 8800gt 512mb Scythe ninja cpu fan ASUS M2n-32 SLi Deluxe 590i 2 GB OCZ Gold XTC DDR2 RAM Samsung DVD-R/RW Drive 320GB Sata 7200rpm HDD Going to get either AMD 6400+ or Phenom 9700 What should I get
i wouldnt go with the phenom, just cause its amd's first quad... and its bound to be buggy, id go with the 6400+ just to be on the safe side. But if you really want the phenom just get it, and make sure you have an extended warranty on it.
Not a bad set up. I'm going for a phenom here pretty soon, despite it being AMD's fist quad core I've heard mixed reviews. I really want to try it out for myself. It's really up to you, if you want to try out Phenom, go for it, there's really nothing bad about it. Despite it being AMD's first venture into Quad-Core action that is. The 6400... I don't have anything bad to say about it either, it may set some higher benchmarks than the Phenom right now but I know for a fact the Phenom (When given the opportunity) will outperform the 6400.
if you didnt buy the parts already i would recommend going with intel because it has a better performance per ghz rating, uses less power, and apparently overclockes better too
AMD is better for Gaming Rigs despite what people say about Intel. Go with the Phenom Quad Core as I have that in 1 of my PC's and have had no problems at all also a few of my friends use it without problems and overclocked it eats intel up. But no matter what people say you will also have mixed emotions about whether AMD or Intel is better. You have to make the choice based on what you want to do. Unless you intend to be running Crysis on all high graphics I wouldnt worry about going to such extremes. AMD 6600+ with 8600GTS will do you fine for 95% of games on high graphics
Where are you getting this from? My processor unit of choice is AMD. I've built 4 rigs, (2 for WoWbotting), (2 for everything else). Not ONCE have I had any of my processors "over heat", even with standard AMD heatsinks. My intention isn't to flame, but I'm curious if you've had your processor over-heat a lot? If so there must be something wrong. The only reason they should be over heating would be due to over clocking without proper cooling. But yeah, I love AMD and always will <3.
ive had it over heat loads, and same with friends, google it, amd heats a lot, i duno if its the point of damage, but its still really really hot
Are you going to be overclocking your processor at all? If so, go with the new Phenom black edition. With it overclocked, you're going to get more performance than the 6400+. Seems like you have the cooling for it too, so I say do it up!!
are you kidding. i have an amd processor and i dont think its ever gone about 30 degrees (celsius that is) and that is while it is overclocked from 1.8 ghz to 2.5 ghz. it is the coolest thing you could ever ask for.
<3 Thanks Billy. On the computer I'm on right now (Botting computer) I'm running a 4200+, very bad considering the new technology. However, it's never overheated whilst overclocked. Keep in mind this is with a standard heatsink too....
Don't go quadcore nothing utilizes it yet so what's the point? If you are running dual monitors then dual core can be nice, one for game one for the net but why pay top dollar atm for so little performance increase. Even with 4 separate applications open rarely will you ever have 4 intensive CPU applications. That's like burning a CD while playing CS while watching a BlueRay movie while surfing the net...how ADD can one person be. Stick with the known tested hardare, better price vs performance and better life exspectancy. Never never never early adopt... I used to work for Sony repair, I know for a fact that we weren't the only ones with this problem. Whenever you have a first of type it's gonna be buggy. I'm a huge AMD fan but currently they cannot keep up with Intel. Intel has the better chips atm plain and simple. Price versus performance depends on which chip you get. Do some bench marking, I use tom's hardware, and some review reading, I use the newegg responses and then think about what you really need before you go off half cocked and blow 500 bucks you didnt' need to spend.
i use AMD and it works great...i was a bit worried about using that at first too but it ended up working great
definatly.. especially if you want a media center pc, amd is the way to go, put an arctic cooling heatsink and you wont know where the heat went. if you want to overclock get an opteron (they can overclock .8 ghz and still stay cool and stable)
