So the 2010 Winter Olympics start this Friday in Vancouver ... is anyone excited at all? Being a Canadian I can't help but feel a little bit excited (even though I live on the opposite side of the country)...what event are you most excited to see? For me, it has to be the hockey - I'm sure this year will be a thriller!

That is pretty sweet Light! I bet the speed skating will be exciting to see! I wish I lived in Van. You're soooo lucky!! Nothing as thrilling as the Olympics has ever come to the Maritimes...well we did have the World Men's Curling Championship last year and that was pretty sweet!

Just to bring this topic back to the top of the boards...anyone watching the Olympics? Any comments? Grievances? Complaints?
I have been hearing a lot (and I mean a lot) of criticism against VANOC and the games in Vancouver - some people even going so far as to say that these are the worst Olympics in history. As a Canadian, I really take great offense to that. First of all, weather is not able to be controlled by man kind (someday I will have mastered that skill, but not yet). Any Canadian knows that the weather can change in the blink of an eye, and unfortunately Vancouver happens to be in the midst of a Winter Heat wave. Although it is presenting some struggles to the athletes I don't think it warrants casting blame on the coordinators of the Vancouver Olympics.
Also - many past Olympics have been marred by accidents, delays and other unfortunate circumstances, so to say that the games never should have been held in Vancouver and that these are the worst games in history is like a dagger to the heart of many Canadians.

That's it for today's rant :) anyone else have anything to say?

I'm assuming they have snow now? I remmeber seeing on the news that they had no snow just before the opening ceremony :p That would be bad for the winter olympics :p

They have actually been getting a rather large amount of rain so the snow has been melting quite quickly. As I stated in my previous post, the weather has been unseasonably warm - even at Cypress and Whistler...bad luck I guess?

I watched the opening event. It was kinda strange and very ecclectic. My favorite events are the hockey and the figure skating. The figure skating is easy to mock, but I used to love it as a kid.
