I just received my new laptop today and I was hoping for a smooth ride through all of the configurations. Everything turned out great except for one thing: the wireless connection. I got the router connected to the laptop but as soon as I leave the room I can't access the internet. What should I do?
I checked my setting twice already and still same problem. It says I have an excellent connection even out of the room but no internet. I want to check the settings for the router but I don't know how to get there.
Linksys RangePlus WRT110 is the router and laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525 if you need to know that too
to access the router: -wire your laptop with the router -in an internet explorer window, type 192.168.1.1 -leave username blank, password will be admin (you can change this after) Edit: I took a look at the manual and fixed my post :arf:
When I leave it blank it gives me this 401 Unauthorized Authorization required. Edit** I got it. Thanks. Although it won't let me change any of the configuration because it is under autoconfig. Do you think if I put the cd back in would it let me change those settings?
It's suppose to Usually, I don't use the cd and just put my own setting directly into the router so I don't know what this autoconfig thing is doing.
I found the problem. When I moved the laptop to the living room it was connecting with the neighbor's wireless internet so I off the setting which said connect to best possible source. Thanks for all the help everyone especially you tharoux. Now I can enjoy my new laptop anywhere in the house. I have another question though, how do I take off all this crap that comes with the computer. I want to get rid of some things like the free internet offers and other useless programs I wont need in the future. And also any other suggestions that would make this laptop run at peek efficiency would be great too.
you got to love those "smart" functions that are set to default that think themselves right into not working *cough* vista *cough* I wish windows would just do away with "wizards" and just force a one through set up with a decent help guide along side
huh? how would that get rid of unwanted preprogramed material? I am totally with on that one! That would be awesome!
It was a pleasure to help you ! As for your problem with unwanted program, you should be able to uninstall them using the uninstall option in the control panel. Those preinstalled features that come with every laptop is a pain in the ass...
Yeah they are a pain. I got rid of most of those free internet offers already so thats good. Only things that this laptop is missing is some good games. I get bored out of my mind when I take it somewhere where I have no internet. The laptop didn't even come with chess! ugh I was really looking forward to that...
Thanks but next time read the other posts before posting. I got the problem fixed already due to some other nice people.
