So I want to know what is the difference between proxies where you type in a http address on a website, and ones where you put in an address and port on your computer.

    Which is better?

I have always used The port variations

    There are

    Transparent proxy's---Useless
    Anonymous proxy`s
    High-anon proxy's
    Elite proxy`s

Make sure you use Elite or High-Anon

The one where you type in a URL (http) is a web-based proxy, more for keeping anonymity while viewing websites. Basically this is only port 80 and in my experience cPanel and WHM.

The second one utilises other ports so that you can use them for other programs such as gaming, etc. This can be useful for softwares that cannot be supported by the web-based proxy.

This guide describes almost everything i understand about proxies.

Always remember one thing though :

Proxies will not make you immune to be iced.

The best they can do is to keep you from being chain-iced.
