Ok heres the problem the kids love playing ruinscape but everytime they do it seems I end up with viruses and spyware out the wazzo. Slows my puter down and its old and slow as it.
I'm running ME, with AMD k-6 processor ,128 mgs of ram and 6 gig hard drive.

IS there anything (besides getting a new puter, which I'm working on) I can do to help the game run better.

    Thanks,
    drago

    delete old unused files/programs

click ctrl+alt+delete and end any process besides iexplorer and explorer

    Here is some recommendation.

    -Go to http://www.download.com
-Get yourself a free anti virus (eg. AVG or Avast)
-Get yourself a free anti spyware (eg. lavasoft's ad-aware)
-Get yourself a free firewall (eg. zonealarm)
-Get x-tra ram so that u wont lagg too much in a 3d game but since u are using ME which is based on windows 95 not NT it is advisable not to use ram more than 512mb for there is leakage (i myself also using ME)
-Next step go to internet explorer then above u can see 'tools' press it and press 'internet options' then a window will appear. Go to the 'privacy tab' select the lvl of the security. i would prefer at least medium.
    - And if u use CTRL+ALT+DEL and want to end processes DONT ever take off explorer and systray(if u have) to stabilise your system for win ME.
Hope these steps could help. And if it does help hope u can +rep me :)

on an old computer like that one those tips will actually slow the comp down

    but try these:

increase the size of your page file:
go to the properties of my computer>advanced tab>performance>advanced tab>virtual memory>change> then set the initial size to the current maximum size

switch to firefox, get faster fox

adjust visual effects for best performance:

properties of my computer>advanced tab>performance>visual effects>hit the "adjust for best performance" radio button

I have been playing runescape for well over 5 years and still do to this day and never once has there site given me spyware or slowed my computer down...One thing I hear though is that if you have an old computer like yours and I'm just guessing your kids have FREE membership The flash ads that runescape uses can be a real pain to older computers.

umm use an antispyware (xoftspy is the best i think), an anti virus (nod32 maybe), delete all unused programs

install tuneup utilities, the most recent is 2007 and all that can repair your computer and optimize it =)

purchase or download spyware docotor or spysweeper

    they are good anti-spyware programs

for anti- virus and firewall i recomend Bitdefender as it was rated #1 of 2006 :)

Heh, I will have to try your idea too because my laptop is kinda old and is rather slow. Maybe that will speed it up a bit too. I liked how you did the step by step thing for those who don't know any better xD
