...For playing WoW ^^ Well, other things too, but that's what I'm most looking forward to. I want a speedy comp, one that can do lagless (or as low lag as possible) raids and stuff, but I don't wanna spend TOO much doe. Just something to get the job done Suggestions on parts? (Budget atm is only £400, maybe £600 soon...)
i personaly think a core duo proccesor + a good graphics card and atleast 1gb (2gb prefferably) of ram then just get a 60 or 80 g hard drive and buy a 300gb external drive later but at pc world just now you can get a 250gb hard drive for £40 also make sure you get a motherboard with plenty of PCI slots so you can add more on later.
I curently play WOW and Im using... P4 3.0 GHz 1GB ram Ati XT300 PCI Express Video and a cheasy MSI Mother board Cable Internet connect and I run without any lag when people in Black Temple with me are laggy I think the most lag comes from substandard video cards, as long as you get a P$ or better processor and a decent video card you should be fine
im making a custom laptop im going with a amd processor if that helps other than that a geforce graphix card and what not it's going to cost me $1,089
You can get real cheap parts on eBay sometimes. Here's good stuff you should have on your PC: 2 GB of RAM At least 256, preferrably 512 MBs of Video RAM Dual Core 2GHz processsor or higher At least 256kbps internet speed
it's worth paying extra $$$ for a good video card... He, I'm still running a XP 1700+ @ 1.5 ghz and I can play almost all game without a problem. Ok, this is my fourth graphic card but I prefer changing this piece than the computer itself.
I highly recommend going with AMD parts, as they are much more reliable and less buggy than intel or the likes. But thats just from my own experiences.
most of the suggestions here are good. personally, id make sure that id have at least a 128 mb video card, or else you might get choppy gameplay
Does anyone know anything about the P5N-E SLI motherboards? I keep seeing things saying they're the crappiest boards ever, and some people saying they have had no problems with it at all :/
i've never heard of that motherboard before... any amd motherboard would be a good choice, though. a couple of good places to look for parts are http://www.newegg.com and http://www.tigerdirect.com. since you don't live in the u.s., you won't actually be able to buy from those sites, but they are especially good for the reviews on the products and i've generally found them to be extremely helpful in buying my own computer parts. graphics cards and processors are definitely going to be the most expensive parts you're looking at, but it's worth it to buy expensive at first so you don't run the risk of having to replace the parts too soon and spend even more money. i'd personally recommend an nvidia graphics card, as i've had the best results from them. they're usually pretty expensive though, so an ati graphics card would be your next best bet. also, i figure i should put in my two cents about the whole dual-core processor thing. you should really ONLY consider getting a dual-core processor if you plan on running a ton of programs at once. i mean like a web browser, a graphics program, a couple of less intense games (such as neopets games), a music player or video, a few other random programs, plus all your background tasks. dual-cores aren't necessarily good for gaming because if your game is not specifically designed to run efficiently on a dual-core processor, it has to constantly switch between the processor's two cores and can essentially lag you. long story short: if you plan on building this computer for gaming only (as you've pretty much stated in your first post), dual-cores are probably not the best way to go. hope that helped a little bit.
Ok, so scrap that other motherboard, rate this rig: CPU Type & Model : Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 (Dual-Core) CPU Speed : 1.866GHz (1866MHz) - 1066MHz FSB CPU L2 Cache : 4Mb (4096Kb) System Memory : 2Gb (2 x 1024Mb 667MHz DDR2) - expandable up to 4Gb Hard Disk Drive(s) : 500Gb (2 x 250Gb 7200RPM SATA) Optical Drive : 16x DVD±RW Graphics / Video : 256Mb ATI Radeon X1300 Pro - DVI, VGA & S-Video That's pretty much all my budget, but please any advice would be great ^^ Edit: Hmm, like fivedrinksin, I reccon I should get a better gfx card, but I'm not sure what to get :S
