buying a graphic programme. I am totally new to all this. So any help given would be very much appreciated. I see that most people here and elsewhere uses photoshop, but when I looked up photoshop there seem to be a billion different ones! So, have no idea which one I should go for.

    Help Please! :D

Go either for Adobe Photoshop CS2 or for the new Adobe Photoshop CS3, which just came out.
I get my programs in a different way than buying, so I don't know if CS3 is already available on stores, I am sure it is online though.
Either programs you choose, you won't get out disapointed ^^

Many thanks for that. We seem to be following each other around at the moment.!!

You got your in a different way other than buying?? Haha.

Anyone else got any opinions? I am presuming at the moment that most people are going to say the same type of thing.

Or maybe we're just too active ;)
I'd like to add something. Depending on which type of graphics that you want to make, there are different programs.
Photoshop can do pretty much a little (a huge little in fact) of everything.
Ultra Fractal is a cool program for making fractals and it can be downloaded for a trial period for free.
There's open canvas too for coloring/shading.
You just need to focus on which type of graphics you want to start making first and choose the program that suits your needs :)

EDIT: Yea, and I didn't actually have to get out of my chair :D

I am not to sure what I want to do, as I said, I am completely new to all of this. But if Photoshop does a bit of everything it probably would be more sensible to go with that one.

Always handy when you don't have to move out of the chair!!

If you can get your hands on CS2 then go for it. It's really worth it.
But if not there are free alternatives out there.
    One of them is Gimp.
It's not as good as Photoshop IMO, but it's just as good.
Here are some screenshots from the program. Give it a try though.

Thank you for people's input. It is very much appreciated. *starts to count pennies*. Might take me a bit to save for it or I could just shove it on my credit card. Oh, the choices. Hehe.

a few users on here including myself use paint.net

I think it works fine for me.... because I am a beginner when it comes to graphic works.

It is not really fancy and photoshop does more things but paint.net works good for me

    Google it.

Also... it is free so if you are worried about spending money and then not really getting into it... then now you can be worry free!

I have a few things in the showcase section if you are curious about some of the work you can do with it.

Photoshop would seem like the most logical thing to do but if your not going to be doing anything serious or somewhat important its a big waste of money if you just designing a couple banners here and there or something like that paint shop pro XI is alot cheaper and is like smaller, more basic version of PS
