As you may know I work as a front desk in a Residence Inn (not a full service hotel). Anyways, there are SOOO many things why I hate this job or any customer service crap. 1. Our department (front desk) always take the hit on every mistakes the other departments make. ex. we got a comment from a guest that checked out, saying that she asked for towels, and we gave her a towel with some hair on it. OKAY. not our fucking problem, housekeeping should take the blame because if we want to "work as a team" then we expect you to do YOUR part. Not our fault that housekeeping did not wash it right or inspect it. 2. We have to do EXTRA kissing ass because hotel's scores are low. ex. we get surveys/comments from guests who checks out. 95% of their BIGGEST complains are the internet (it is retarded) and that the rooms are small, therefore, of course our scores will always be low. It is way out of our hands, but our boss wants us to kiss more ass in hopes to change those scores. BULLSHIT. 3. You get the MOST STUPID RANDOM REQUESTs from people. ex. Someone called me to ask what the phone number to a Residence Inn in Texas .... WHAT THE FUCK?! We're in Virginia, how the fuck am i suppose to know? wait, hold on, let me shit out the answer. Bitch, google it?! another ex. Housekeeping always clean the rooms everyday, except when a guest puts a NO SERVICE or LATER PLEASE sign. But don't expect me or anyone, when your dumbass decided, you want your room clean and housekeeping left for the day. They aint here 24/7 to wait for you, asshole. 4. People who are NOT guests expects you to do shit for them. ex. We get plenty of outsiders coming in to call them a taxi or fax papers for them. You aint paying us, so get the fuck outta my face. 5. A guy rents out our meeting room, for dirt cheap, compared to any other hotels in the area .. and this is a business area so yeah EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE. He pays $135 a class, when the meeting room cost about $600, he receives $100 per person in that class. Yeah, do the math, what a rip off ey? But he manages to complain every weekend about how he does not get enough table/chairs blah blah blah. A good example on why we need to cut him lose: One Saturday, we had a malfunction on our fire alarms, it went off twice the very same hour. So the fire marshalls came in and did the inspections throughout the whole building. So this guy, had the nerve to demand that he wants to pay half or nothing at all because the engineers and the fire marshalls kept disturbing his class! Like what the fuck, so I guess his DRIVING IMPROVEMENT CLASS, is wayyy more important than everyone's safety? Bitch get the fuck outta here. 6. People who attend the DRIVING IMPROVEMENT CLASS, do not know how to read! and not to mention ignorant. ex. I have 2 visible signs that explains where the class is at, one in front of me, the other in front of the entrance. No matter what, they LOVE to ask me where it is. Then there is also a sign that is VERY VISIBLE saying no coffee or tea for non guests, considering the fact that it is right next to the coffee machine. But they went ahead and get coffee anyways. 7. Guests gets mad at you for their own stupidity. ex. "WHY ISN'T MY ROOM CLEAN TODAY?!" - uhh maybe because you had the NO SERVICE sign up, stupid. "How come I got charged for this movie last night?" - EXACTLY LAST NIGHT. You knew you watched it, don't deny it so EAT IT. 8. Somehow, guests tends to get EXTREMELY NEEDY. They expect you to do EVERYTHING FOR THEM, and I mean EVERYTHING! and not to mention, they WANT everything as well. ex. "Do you think you can watch my dog while I go out to eat?" - Sure, I'll watch your ugly ass poodle > ex. "Do you think you can deliver this to my room?" - Bitch take your fat lazy ass down here and do it yourself. and besides we aint a full service so BLEH eat my shit. ex. "I know the shuttle doesn't start running at 4 but do you think he can pick me up?" - well you need to exercise cuz mcdonalds fuck you up  notice how every question starts with "do you think..."? 9. Since we are not full service, we only have 1 person per shift, one in the morning and sometimes 2 at night. We don't get a 30 min break (sweet) BUT you're standing for 8+ hours straight, your stomach is rumbling, your feet hurts like a mutha and you just want to go outside and hit a cig. But when everything dies down at the front and you go at the back to sit down WHILE doing paperworks, your boss wants to get in your ass and start asking why you are at the back. He knows damn well why, it aint easy standing for a long period of time, geezz what an asshole. :nope: 10. Hotels are always open 24/7, like a whorehouse, meaning someones gotta work christmas night, new years night etc. It sucks cuz it might be you and you have no choice to work a 3pm-11pm shift and everyone is celebrating whatever except you.
I would rather cut my toes off than work that job. Get an online job or rob a bank.. Nothings worth that BS
Is everyone open up to suggestions in your hotel? You might take the blame for others mistakes, and that might suck. But then you could forward the mistakes to the appropriate parts of the hotels. Are the higher ups aware that their internet sucks? I don't think they can do much about the room sizes And....yeah, I guess you can't help much about stupid people. Try having a whole bunch of candy in your pockets. Sugar!!! Sounds like a blast. Not the good kind.
corporate KNOWS that our internet server sucks balls, but they are too cheap to upgrade us. there are 121 rooms and only 60 rooms can access to it, but if one of those people are taking up the bandwidth (such as downloading music etc) then it kicks off 2-3 people. :|
