Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..) Here's how to get it back: Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the " This opens the group policy editor. Then go to: Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab : "By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default." So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. Works on XP Pro and 2000. disclaimer. - if you can run gpedit.msc you can use it but if you cannot use gpedit.msc this is useless - it works perfectly for me for restocking
Surely this has some bad side affects? anyone got any info? I dont really want to risk it yet. :/ altho sounds a good idea
yeah, thats what im worried about, other than that, it seems great, ill do some more research about it first tho.
Wow im really tempted to try, since my comp is so laggy at startups, any side effect info would help ;D
no your not lol. I think that microsoft uses this bandwidth for necessary updates and protecting you against malicious stuff on the interenet in any way they can
I've read it and I've typed gpedit.msc and couldn't open it. Altough I don't have Windows XP PRO. For people that this didn't work, having XP isn't enough. There's XP, XP Home Edition, and XP PRO. You need the PRO OS. This is probs why most of people can't find the microsoft console file.
windows pro is just a different version of windows xp with a few more features to help people get work done faster.
yeh i know that sorry i was unlcear i thought the link they posted explained all about this 20 percent of bandwidth thing...
