I have windows xp home edition servise pak one and it is fast to get to login about one minute but when log in 15 to start up PC Stats 256mb RDRAM 1.2ghz processer What could I do to have it run faster
You probably need more RAM 256 isnt enough these days. Also you probably have to manny things running at the startup.
yea you could add more ram or upgrade your processor which is a little more involved. Contact your manufactures support to get the right stuff and I am sure they would have suggestions
Upgrading RAM isn't hard also Ashampoo stops wierd programs that you don't want them to run at startup not run, this helps speed stuff up!
Easy step to stop programs from starting when you boot your computer: -Shortcut: "Windows Logo" + R -Type "msconfig" (without the "" !duh!) -in the start tab (last one), here's the list of prog. Uncheck the one that you don't want to start automatically. Apply and restart windows. That should help a bit !
if you think xp is slow wait till you see vista, i heard its gonna use up resources like crazy...bah but i want dx 10
You can also free up a bit of RAM by going into Control panel, going into System, then go to Advanced > Performance and change it to "Change Windows for best Performance". See if that helps!
also delete some unecessary shit off your computer, like if u have old things that your not going to use delete them
Have you tried de-fraging the computer? It usually helps mine. Though, I would delete all the temp internet files, cookies and whatnot, you can do that easily by going System Clean-Up Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Clean-up. De-Frag Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmentor To Clean-up first, and de-fraging can take quite a while, so be sure you have spare time. =P
Ok i got 1 suggestion for u other than adding RAM(if u have not got enough money). Run>type"msconfig">press the 'startup' tab>uncheck those programs u dun want to startup during booting of windows.
