Hmm I see...But from what I have heard people have already started creating viruses for Vista... Here is an article on CNET....http://news.com.com/First potential virus risk for Windows Vista found/2100-7349_3-5819428.html

Actually arguing if it's going to be a great OS is pointless until it comes out.

Only time will tell how good/bad it will be although I would never be naive in thinking it's going to be the "end all" of all OS's.

10 years from now... we'll be talking about the new MS Horizon(or some other name) OS that will blow away Vista...

    Technology always marches forward.

Besides... it gives MS another opportunity to sell almost every PC user a new OS and not having to give existing users "free updates", thus enhancing MS's bottomline.

If you think MS is doing you a favor... think again.

Windows Vista is the next operating system from Microsoft. Over the course of 10 years, we've gone from Windows 95 to 98 to Windows ME to Windows 2000 to Windows XP, and now Vista. Personally I won't get it right away, some aspects still seem incompatible (DirectX) but maybe when a Service Pack comes out.

Oh I know this but I expect that when it is first released it is gonna be quite buggy and fairly open to attack so I wish not to take my chances just yet.
no it's different than you think.... the file system has been improved... so for the most part it'll be "unattacked" for the first couple of months... then when you get it is when there might actually be viruses for it
the whole article is based on an if

Are you saying this b/c DX9 won't be supported.. or do you think they're getting rid of DX?... b/c DX10 is native in Vista

I've worked with most of the os's that ms has come out with. They have all been buggy and had there good and bad points. Each user is different. Myself I like xp I think it is one of the better ones. My mom doesn't she didn't like how alot of her games and programs weren't compatible.

Everyone is different. I'm planning on getting a new computer in about a month. I'll run it like I did my others until it dies or get tired of it and settle for what ever os the next one comes with lol.

I'm not picky of course when I first started learning about computers and basic programming all we had was a turtle to work with. :D

Why? I mean other than a nicer looking interface, it's pretty useless.
I mean, security wise you need to spend big bucks.
I'll wait until it comes down in price.

I esntyrf to get one, can resist the eye-candy! haha... But avoid 64-bit for 2007, if u want 32bit go ahead as 64bit drivers are still terrible... For now, I'll wait and see how everything develops.. ie stability issues.. etc

My computer I purchased recently can be upgraded to Windows Vista apparently. IT was even advertised as such, so I guess I will if I need it and it cheap enough

Eventually Ill get vista but they say if your a gamer you should have a minimum of 2GB and its recommended you have 4GB.

Thats a bit much memory to run an OS plus you have to have a decent GPU to run it.

I have a 7600GT but its not worth the loss in performance.

*Points to the millions of people who are going to buy copies of vista without having even 1GB of ram and be infuriated when they realize they wasted ~100 bucks*

(Waiting Til I get a new computer) :p

Eventually, windows vista will be necessary; however I will hold out with XP for as long as I can. Vista is just a bloated, buggy version of its predecessor (as were all microsoft operating systems).

Yeah, that's probably what i'll do too. Wait a year or so, so that all the users can mess with it and find bugs and stuff. :p

The worst thing is for gamers that want to play Halo 3 on PC have to use vista.

Im hoping that someone cracks it and makes it playable for windows with some kind of emulation.
