Assuming you upgrade. If you have a jailbroken iPhone you should be aware, at this time, that you never ever upgrade until a new jailbreak has been released. Your iPhone will work just as good as usual in the meanwhile. I'm saving up for one now, I'll buy it in 4-6 weeks from my father's friend in Estonia. With all the third party apps, I can't wait to get a hold of an iEverything.
Well they will be soon, the price are for the Ipod Touch are dropping $100 soon and then they will get rid of the 8gig. So 16gig for $299 and 32gig for $399.
i heard about that too, but it better happen soon... so far here in canada, a 8 gig is 269, and that the cheapest ive seen
I heard that apple is adding an extra 75$ to every touch in order to discourage pirating. Is this true?
but then that would just give them less sales, and why would that discourage pirating... that doesnt makes sense from my business p.o.v
The price drop supposed to happen in mid-april so that's probably when I'm going to buy mine, I live in Canada too. But if you live close to the border, my advice is to buy an ipod Touch at bestbuy in America because when I dropped my ipod in saltwater it was fried but I went back to bestbuy and they gave me a brand new ipod right away. But my brother bought his and Canada at bestbuy and it took over two weeks for him to get his ipod back. JUst my two cents
honestly your better off with a classic. its such a waste of money and the screen is too little to use the internet on it
Personally, I think that IPhone does not do any useful stuff at all, other than providing eyecandies. I guess it is a better choice to stick to consumer choice brands like Nokia, which offer better features with cheap prices.
If people paid attention to quality we might actually get a phone that rated a excellent for hearing on consumer reports...I mean it's for talking to other people with your voice primarily...*sigh*.
Wifi and 3rd party apps, how can you not see these as useful? You'll be able to save lots of time witht the wifi and you can get games but even more importanly, use your iPhone as a remot for your computer. These things may not be all new, but what's useful is that someone has finally bothered to put them all in one small package. I would have agreed a few months ago, but when a phone like this is released, it opens so many new possibilities. It's great for businessmen and I can think of many different ways in which it will benefit my studies. Being able to do research on the internet while I'm on the subway or buss or at the countryside. I won't have to carry both the mp3-player and a cell on me which will be just great. While most of the things aren't new with the iPhone, but they are improved and installing 3rd party apps seem to be pretty new and even more important; the touchscreen does provide more possibilities. I think it's great that we start to put as many gadgets together in one small package, it's better than having a bag full of stuff.
i have a touch and i am confident that my screen won't break the only slight disappointment with it is that they released the 32gb version (which i would have got if i could) a month after i bought mine!
I do as well but smaller is not always better and the phone is definitely not the ultimate form of these functions imo. I would much prefer a laptop with some form of vonage type service. 3rd party apps are being purposely stunted by Apple and don't forget the horrible carrier lock in. Also pretty much everything the iphone can do the blackberry type phones have done for years. With the iPod fad people just got silly. People bitched at sony for charging 600 dollars for a blueray player and new gen tech while people around the world were crazy over repackaged tech with a touch screen and some graphics features. As phones become more gadget laden and start to cross over into computer type apps people are just asking for problems. I would much prefer to my computer which for the most part I know I can lockdown.
I disagree. I hate the iPods since you only pay for the logo. I have never bough an iPod and will never do so. But I have purchased an iPhone (well my parents have bought one for me, since they're currently in a country that sells them) just for the 3rd party apps and the interface. It's not hard to go around the carrier lock and/or jailbreaking it. Also, with the new sdk, it will be really easy to purchase 3rd party apps from people for a small fee or for free. The Dev team has also worked on an unlock (jailbreak?) that you get along with the installing a patch along with the sdk (at least that's how I think it works ). Info here: http://iphone-dev.org/newswnage
The ease of getting around the carrier lock is not the point...the fact that I'd be supporting a product whose maker would institute such bullshit in the first place is. Not to mention all the legal and warranty bs involved as well. It'd be a toss up whether or not it'd be an issue but again I'd would have been paying 600, now 5 or 400, and void my warranty just to be able to use it how I want. It's a 3rd party that's creating the patches and I have the same issue with this as I do with Linux hardware support and user made 3rd party drivers. That's ignoring Apples patch that semi bricked some peoples phoness. SDK is nice and all but it's hardly a revolution. It's a phone...I'll stick to watching movies and games and programs on my 15inch laptop that weighs all of like 4 pounds and cost less then that phone.
Of course it's not a revolution, it's just like if you're buying a laptop you're not going to get as much for the money as you would if you would be buying a stationary computer. But it's that you not only combine your mp3-player and phone (still nothing new about that, sure) and also get lots of different features. 16gb is more than enough for me. Combine that with SNES emulators, 3rd party apps that are made just for fun so I can waste some time the days when I actually have done everything I need and the most important; wifi and I'll sell my soul for it. It's great if you need to do research on the web for school. If I can use those 80+ minutes a day that it takes me to travel to do research meanwhile, it's quite a relief. Especially when you're a student and work and don't have much spare time. We also have several free wifi connections in the subway and on busses here, so there's not such a big problem finding a connection. And I know I've said it before but I'll say it again; I'll pay $500 just for the interface. Those sort of things are really important to me. It's not about style, it's about three years of graphic design ruining my eyes.
