:/ Doesn't work so well for me. I have cable, and unplugged my Motorola surfboard modem, and when I reran it through, I just didn't have an internet connection anymore, and had to restart, and after all of that, I still had the same IP.
if you are using wireless, and connecting to a modem, then no it wont change your ip if you just release your wireless connection. The IP address is in the modem, and if you didnt already know every computer connected to the modem has the same IP, so the only way to do this by unplugging or reseting the modem
I wonder If I call up verizon could I get a dynamic ip. I have an ughh static ip whick sucks like no other
what happens if it reverts to an ip that isnt legit? like an ip that was used before by someone else to do something illegal and got caught? scary
it is rare but I have had that happened to me before but not on neopets it was a neopets realted board
My Ip changed drastically. Thanks +rep EDIT: hmm just a thought. If you didnt know the birthday of an account on neo and you already tried 3 times could you do this and then try another 3 times?
Cable is different than dsl... and takes a lot more patience. if you're not on cable.... this should work: go to START>RUN and type cmd. At the command line type ipconfig /release (or winipcfg /release in earlier versions of Windows). Then hit ENTER. Next, type ipconfig /renew and you should get a new IP address If you have a cable modem, you may want to also renew its IP address. First, go ahead and release the IP address on the PC, then shut the computer down. Next, unplug the cable modem for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in again. Once all of the modem lights are green, power up the PC again. It should automatically renew its IP at boot. Sometimes you have to wait up to an hour or so for it to change... so be patient.
is there any way to do this with a wireless router? ( with no computer directly connected to the router, only wireless connections)
You can try disconnecting the wireless from the internet... and press the little reset switch in the back a few times... and then turn off the modem for a while. The length of time the modem needs to stay off depends on the service... ie dsl, cable, etc. I've found cable takes the longest to change. Also some models of wireless allow you connect to the modem thru a management panel that will allow you to reset the modem.
