    Welcome new members of Neofriends and those who are reading this guide. For you newer members, reading this guide will set you off on the right foot in a great community. Oh, and for you older members reading this, don't be embarrassed. Everybody needs a review, even I do!

    You may already know, but Neofriends is a community dedicated to the cheating, information, and more of Neopets. We provide GREAT programs that work, but there is a little catch: contributing to the forum in some way. Read to find out along with the key steps to becoming an awesome member here.





    II. Neofriends.net Ranks


    Status Ranks:

    Newbie: Status gained when member makes 1 non-spam post.
    Level I (1): Status gained when member makes 40 non-spam posts.
    Level II (2): Status gained when member makes 150 non-spam posts.
    Level III (3): Status gained when member makes 375 non-spam posts.
    Level IV (4): Status gained when member makes 750 non-spam posts.
    Level V (5): Status gained when a Level IV (4) member is nominated by a Level V+ member without any member below Level V knowing. Then, a poll will be posted and the member must get 75%+ votes to be accepted as this rank.
    Moderator: Status gained when member is chosen by a moderator or an administrator.
    Administrator: Status gained when member is owner of site or granted by an administrator.

    III. Neofriends.net Rules (READ THEM!!!)

    Nobody is exempt from these rules, and they apply to all members and all ranks.

    NOTE: Trading, buying, or selling anything is not permitted outside the Neofriends Blackmarket forum, which is only accessible by Level 1 users and above. Note that it is against the rules to discuss these things in the chatbox too. Also, any attempt to post anything regarding which autobuyer is better or which is the best shop to restock in is not permitted.

    * Any discussing, linking, or posting anything that relates to adult oriented material is not permitted.

    Anything that is not suitable for users under the age of 18 should not be posted or discussed anywhere on Neofriends.

    * Discussing, linking, or posting anything that is malicious will not be tolerated.

    Uploading, downloading and/or linking to anything malicious is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, viruses, trojans, malicious coding, or illegal activity.

    * Any attempts to cheat, hack or exploit bugs on the forum are not allowed.

    This is applicable to, but not limited to, contests, promotions, and Neofriends store points. You agree that you will not exploit any bugs on the forum to gain an unfair advantage over others and will instead report them immediately.

    * You will not distribute or leak any private information to others.

    The Neofriends community does not support the leaking or distributing of any private material to those that are not permitted to view or use that material. Do not distribute or leak any information, programs or anything else considered private. This includes leaking or sharing information that is private from a private Neofriends forum to a public forum. Please do not send programs downloaded from neofriends.net to other people - this will result in a permanent ban.

    * You will not share or create multiple accounts.

    Creating multiple accounts or sharing accounts with others is not permitted and will be considered cheating. This also includes unauthorized access to any Neofriends account not belonging to you.

    * Harassment and discrimination is not tolerated by Neofriends.

    Any hateful or hurtful messages to any member of Neofriends is not tolerated. Harassing comments about anybody includes, but is not limited to sexual, physical, and/or mental harassment. Discrimination includes, but is not limited to any form of, racism, sexism, and/or stereotyping.

    * Plagiarism and hotlinking will not be tolerated.

    Any program, code snippet, or tutorial etc not created by you will require the acknowledgment of the original author(s) and their permission to use their work here on Neofriends. Do not claim the work of others as your own. Also, do not hotlink to images without the owners permission, rather, rehost the image elsewhere (such as ImageShack or Photobucket).

    * Linking to other sites in the same genre of Neofriends will not be tolerated.

    Linking to or advertising other sites of the same genre of Neofriends is not allowed. Any linking or advertising of said sites must first require approval from the Staff.

    * You may not request to be promoted to any rank.

    Neofriends will not tolerate those that request to be promoted to any rank higher than they already are. Besides automatic promotions to certain ranks and applications, any begging or pleading for promotion will not be permitted.

    * Double Posting, Spamming, and Gravedigging

    Any double posting, spamming and/or gravedigging by any member will not be tolerated. Double posting is purposely posting multiple messages in a row in a single thread. Spamming is posting short, worthless messages that add no use to the thread. Gravedigging is posting a worthless message in a thread that has not been posted in at least 7 days. None of these will be tolerated, and excessively violating this rule will likely result in your banishment from Neofriends.
    * Note: Gravedigging rule does not apply in any way in Stickies. *

    * Signature and Avatar Limits

    Because many Neofriends users do not have the same internet connection speeds, and some may run slower than others, the following restrictions are in place for signatures and avatars.
    - Signatures may not exceed 500x200 pixels and 150kb (combined total) and five (5) lines of text (including blank lines).
    - Avatars must not exceed 75x75 pixels and 50kb.

    * Report other members, don't accuse them.

    You may give members advice and suggestions about how to properly use Neofriends, but please, do not condemn them for breaking any of the forum rules, rather just report the post and allow the Staff to decide what to do.



    Breaking any of the minor rules will result in a warning being issued. Accumulating warnings can result in a suspension or a ban. Please read this topic viewtopic.php?f=73&t=14156 on the current warning limits.

    IV.Forum Cash & Downloading

    Forum cash is a Neofriends.net "currency." It is gained by making non-spam posts, writing good guides, contributing, or donating to the site. Forum cash is used for downloading programs found at the Download Section.



    Posting (+Forum Cash)

    Let's start with the simplest, easiest way to gain forum cash: posting. As you read in the rules, spamming for forum cash is not tolerated. To gain it responsibly, you must make non-spam posts that evolve around the subject, are genuinely interested, etc. You can rack up on forum cash if you post useful, genuine posts daily. It adds to the forum and helps conversations prosper. NOTE: MAX 30 FORUM CASH GAINED PER DAY BY POSTING.

    Here are the sections that you can make non-spam posts that gain forum cash:



    Guides/Contributing (+Forum Cash)

    Contributing with guides, major help, and anything that helps the community can also make you pretty rich in forum cash :yup:. This is one of the hardest yet best ways to gain forum cash because you show that your guide was not worth just 1 forum cash if it was good ;). This shows that you care about the community, and moderators will give you forum cash as necessary. This is one of the best things a new member can do to help the forum.     Donating (+Forum Cash)

    Donating is a very appreciated and easy way to gain forum cash. Instead of spamming, this is an option for leechers and those who don't have the time to be active in a forum. To donate: lwdonate.php



    Advancing Level(s) (+Forum Cash)

    When you reach Level I (1), you will receive 15 forum cash points automatically.
    Upon reaching Level II (2), you will receive 40 forum cash points automatically.
    Reaching Level III (3) will give 75 forum cash points automatically to you.
    When you reach Level IV (4), you will receive 100 forum cash points automatically.
    Upon reaching Level V (5), you will receive free programs automatically.



    Losing Forum Cash (-Forum Cash)

    When you spam, break rules, etc., moderators can elect to take away some or all of your forum cash. You may also be infracted along with the forum cash loss. Moderators would not like to do this to any members, but if you break a rule, :X: dead.



    Downloading (-Forum Cash)

    When you buy a program from the Download Section, it will take away from your forum cash according to what the author charges. When you buy a program, you have not downloaded it yet. Buying only puts it in your Program Purchases page. To download a bought program, just go to the program's page and click "Download Now".



    V. The Reputation System

    The reputation is used to credit members for successful trades, contributions, and anything that you thought is helpful. On a member's profile, it will reveal the 5 last reputation feedbacks/comments you have received for anybody to see. Reputation is exactly what the word means in this forum. It tells you about the user's reputation around the forum: how helpful they are, how annoying they may be, how good of a guide-writer they are, all those things and more.



    Blocks

    Red or green blocks will appear next to a member's post showing their reputation information.

    Each Green Block = 25 reputation points
    Red Block = -1 or less reputation points

    Example: If you have 53 reputation points, you will have 2 blocks next to your post in your user info bar.

    There is a limit of 10 green blocks you can get although you can still keep getting reputation points.



    The System: How It Runs/Works

    Each user has a 'reputation power' which determines how much a member can give or take from another member's reputation.

    New members (you) start out with 0 rep power. You can get to 1 rep power by making 50 non-spam posts. From then on, you will gain a rep power only by every 400 posts or for each year you are on this site. NOTE: You may add/subtract another member's "reputation" even though you have 0 rep power. This will implant your reputation comment on their profile, but you will not affect this member's reputation points.

    Click [​IMG] to subtract from member's reputation.



    Example: If you have 1 reputation power, when you give a reputation feedback to another member, you will give them +1 reputation point. If you have 5 reputation power and give a rep feedback to another member, you will give them +5 reputation points.



    Limitations

    • • You cannot give reputation feedback to another member twice in a row - you must wait until you give reputation to 5 other members before you can give reputation feedback to the same member again.

      • You must wait at least 6 hours between each reputation feedback you give to other members. This was implanted so that you give reputation only to the members that deserve it.

    These limitations do not apply to to Level Vs (5s), Moderators, or Administrators.



    Reputation Points vs. Reputation Power

    Many of you will be confused with the difference between reputation points and reputation power so I will compare them side-by-side.

    Reputation Points: You can only receive these from other members when you make a successful trade with them, contribute, or do something helpful.

    Reputation Power: This identifies how many reputation points that you can give to other members.



    VI. The Blackmarket - Trading (Rules & iTrader Feedback)

    When you are Level I (1), you will be able to trade in The Blackmarket. You can create threads for Buying or Selling. Also, you can surf around for others' threads for a deal. When you are interested, you can post on the thread or PM the seller. Once you come to terms with the seller, it will be time to execute the trade. If the seller requests for a middleman, you should PM the seller and the middleman to confirm.


    Blackmarket Rules/Guidelines:
    • You MUST state whether your items/neopoints/pets/etc. are legit or illegit. Unstated boards will be locked. Lying will result in a permanent ban.
    • You are not required to give iTrader points, but it is strongly recommended and courteous to do so. Do not give rep for trades; use the iTrader system. Only give points for trades over 100k in value![/list]
    I. Cracked/hacked/stolen etc. items, accounts, and pets are strictly prohibited from being sold. No, you cannot sell the cracked/hacked/stolen items for np and sell the np, nor buy items with the cracked np and sell the items. No exceptions, no loopholes.
    II.If you do not feel comfortable trading with a user (regardless of level), or if you are selling/buying a large amount, USE A MIDDLEMAN. A middleman is a trusted user to whom the seller sends the transaction item. The buyer then sends the seller the payment. Upon recipient of the payment, the seller will inform the middleman, who will deliver the buyer his item. All mods are trustworthy middlemen. Alternatively, you can choose to ask a user on Nf.net whom you both know, respect, and trust. However, understand that you are putting yourself AND the user with whom you are trading at a high risk by not using a mod.     III.BE CAREFUL. If you get scammed, PM a mod/mods and we will deal with it. However, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be cautious. You trade at your own risk. YOU CAN AND SHOULD ALWAYS USE A MIDDLEMAN.
    IV.Check users' iTrader comments before a trade! Make sure that users have done not only multiple successful trades, but successful trades of a high value. Use a middle man if you want to sell fifty million np to a user with a high trader rating but has only bought avatars.[/list]

    Giving Feedback:
    To give feedback, you go to the trader's profile.

    You should see:

    Username: *Username*
    Gender: [​IMG] OR [​IMG] OR [​IMG]
    Groups: *Drop Box* *Go Button*
    iTrader: #|#|#
    Neopet: *Neopet*

    Look for the iTrader stats and click it. You should see a detailed review of all of this member's feedback along with the total number of positive, neutral, and negative feedbacks. Below the totals, you should see an "Add Feedback" button. Fill out the self-explanatory form and there you go! You just gave iTrader feedback.




    VII. Message Box (Main Page)
    The message box is like a Chat Room for all the Neofriends members...anybody can talk there, and you can post things a lot more "spammy and casual". Pretty simple, just talk to them about stuff, laugh, enjoy, etc. :) Although you are allowed to, I suggest you don't be annoying there as people annoying don't have good reputation :D. Oh, but still, no porn :(! I think reasonable, standard rules apply.

    VIII. User Control Panel

    Found here! Usually, I just click the (# new messages) link to take me there when I'm browsing the forum. If you are on subsilver2, you will not see the User Control Panel link everywhere, but there won't be a problem for members using prosilver.

    The overview tab shows general information that is summarized. It also shows the threads, forums subscribed to along with the drafts and attachments you have.

    Front Page: This shows Important Announcements, Recent Reputation Points, and Your Activity.
    Manage Subscriptions: Lists all the forums and threads that you have subscribed to. You will be notified whenever something new happens according to your settings. To subscribe to a thread, there will always be a link on the topic post saying "Subscribe topic". To subscribe to a forum, at the topic margin of each forum, there will be something that says "Subscribe forum".
    Manage Bookmarks: Lists all the threads you have bookmarked. Bookmarking is saving the threads that you find useful for later use, but usually, activity in the forum may make the thread a little more inactive so that's where bookmarking comes in. It helps link to all your favorite threads all in this section. To bookmark a thread, just click the "Bookmark topic" button next to the subscribe link.
    Manage drafts: This lists all the drafts of threads you've been working on. This is usually used on guides because you rarely can finish a guide like this in a day. So, this is where the Load/Save drafts come in handy. Drafts are for saving your work when you haven't submitted it to the public. This can be found next to the Preview, Submit, and Cancel buttons when you are posting in the advanced mode (not "quick reply"). More about these buttons and their uses in guides further down on this guide called: [THE] Guide to Writing Guides.
    Manage attachments: This lists all the attachments you have used on this forum including the ones for private messages. To attach a file while posting on the forum, on advanced mode for posting (not "quick reply"), you will see "Upload attachment" just below the Preview/Submit buttons. When you are private messaging, attaching a file will be all the way at the bottom where you will see "Filename:" and "File comment".

    The profile tab is for managing how your profile (duh), signature, and/or avatar looks. Also, you can edit your account information like your email or password.

    Edit profile: This edits your profile/member page. It is basically information about how to contact you, your interests, gender, birthday/age, and favorite neopet o_O.
    Edit signature: This is the text, pictures, videos, etc. that are usually (if you choose) at the bottom of each of your posts. Here at the UCP, you will be able to edit it.
    Edit avatar: This is an optional decision to make: whether or not to change your avatar. On default, it is your level, but it may be changed. You can get upload one from your computer or link one from a site.
    Edit account settings: This is where you edit your email or password. NOTE: You have to have your current password to do so.

    The board preferences tab is used for changing the way you see the forum. It can go from seeing other member's signatures and avatars to changing the complete look of the forum. I strongly suggest to the newer members to leave these settings exactly as their defaults because the defaults are usually what all the other members use. When you have a problem, all members will assume you are still on the defaults. With that said and kept in mind, let's take a look at it. My suggestions are in ()s.

    Edit global settings: These are settings about if you allow members to contact you, notifications from moderators, private messaging settings, language, time, DST settings, and board style (suggest subsilver2).
    Edit posting defaults: These settings are advanced about posting. Enabling BBCode by default (enable), enabling smilies (enable), attach signature by default (enable), and notify upon reply (disable).
    Edit display options: These settings are for displaying signatures, smilies, images, avatars, etc. along with thread filtering by day, ordering, and order direction.

    Ah, the private messaging tab. It is probably the most used tab in the UCP. Here is your powerhouse for all of your private messages. Should be pretty easy to handle :)

    Compose message: Here is where you make a message to send to other members. It works just like posting, which is described below by the guide [GUIDE:] Your Posts, Now Sexier (Compressed). You have a member to send, a message, PM icon (optional), and a file (optional); so, basically it is just like posting privately to another member.
    Manage PM drafts: This is where you manage all your saved drafts of PMs. These are PMs that aren't ready yet or is in progress. You can load, edit, and delete them here.
    Inbox: Pretty simple, this is where fellow NF members' PMs go. The number in parentheses tell how many unread messages you have. Here, you can read, mark/unmark as important, reply, and delete PMs. Oh, and there is a 250 message limit so clean up your junk PMs.
    Outbox: These are where the messages you have sent but have not been received go. Here, you can read over your message or even revise it! Along with the same features as the inbox.
    Sent messages: These are where the messages you have sent and received go. You can read, reply (to yourself o_O), mark, and delete.
    Rules, folders & settings: This is where you assign special rules. Hey, go look for yourself, you can create a crapload of different rules. Also, it will also determine what to do if a folder is full.

    This tab is usually useless. The only reason why you might want to go here is if you wanted to apply for Giveaway Access.

    Edit Memberships: This is where it shows the groups you are members in, and groups you aren't. The lower levels that you have already passed are available for you to "rejoin". Only moderators can really do something here.
    Manage groups: This is where you manage a group that you are the leader of. Moderators are probably the only ones who really can do anything here.

    This section is where you manage your friends and foes. It's pretty simple. People you like = friends. People you find annoying/dislike = foes

    Manage friends: This is where you manage all your friends. To add friend(s), just type in the username(s) of the user(s) on each line. Then, click "Submit". To delete, just click on the member(s) you wish to delete (use CTRL/Apple Command for multiple). Then, click "Submit".
    Manage foes: This is where you manage all your foes. To add foe(s), just type in the username(s) of the user(s) on each line. Then, click "Submit". To delete, just click on the member(s) you wish to delete (use CTRL/Apple Command for multiple). Then, click "Submit".

    This section is for editing favorites and basic settings for the Arcade section.

    Manage settings: This is where you manage your basic settings for the arcade. Notify when your highscore is beat, games viewed per page, sort order of the games, and sorting direction (ascending or descending).
    Manage favorites: This is where you view and/or delete your marked "favorite" games.

    This section is for managing your gallery settings.

    Personal settings: These are settings to automatically subscribe to specified new images.
    Manage personal album: This is where you manage your albums and subalbums. You can add, view, edit, and delete these albums here.
    Manage subscriptions: Here, you manage your subscriptions. The subscriptions tell you when something is new about the image. You can go to the subscription or stop watching.
    Manage favorites: This is where you manage your favorite images. This is just like bookmarking a thread, instead, this is an image. Here, you can view the favorite or remove from favorites list.


    IX. Gallery

    The gallery section is found here. The gallery section is for members to show off their screenshots, graphics skills, store their images, etc. You can also comment on pictures at the bottom, and see what other people said about the picture, too.


    X. Arcade

    The arcade section is found here. This section is where members show off their gaming skills, waste away their time, or try and go for high scores. Also, you can share your comments and thoughts of the game.


    XI. Commonly Used Terms & Abbreviations
    Here is a list of abbreviations and terms you will find around the forum, whether you're trading or just posting.

    +rep: to give positive reputation points to a member

    #k (when used after number): thousand

    TNT: The Neopets Team (people that ban you from Neopets)
    n00b/newb: newbie
    SS/SSer/SSing: score send/score sender/score sending
    AB/ABer/ABing: autobuy/autobuyer/autobuying
    Middleman: this is a neutral person in a trade to make sure neither the buyer nor seller will be scammed.

    This will show you how to make your posts better and sexier.



    Guide
    The subtitle will show how the font looks like. An image of the button is next; an explanation and example in context helps clarify usage, and after all that, the code of the example shown above.


    Bold Text

    Bold is usually used for guide titles, subtitles, and emphasis. It is often combined with italics and/or underline.

    Quoting is usually for talking to another person that posted in a thread. Image 2 shows you that you can quote someone, but if you use Image 1, you can make anyone say anything!! Sometimes, you want to quote a newspaper, CNN, or something for information. That can all be done with the [​IMG] button.

    But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

    We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

    It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

    But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

    The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

    We cannot walk alone.

    And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

    We cannot turn back.

    There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: "For Whites Only." We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹


    I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

    Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

    And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

    I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

    I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

    And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

    And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

    Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

    Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

    Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

    Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

    But not only that:

    Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

    Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

    Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

    From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

    What you SHOULD do:

    Tip #1 When posting, actually be interested!

    When you are posting, actually be interested. If you aren't into the subject or do not know much, you don't need to post. This something that good members keep in mind. Posting should keep the subject flowing and not show signs of you trying to gain forum cash. That's something that the more you are around the forum, the more you will notice.

    Tip #2 Questions: They pwn!

    Questions are something that you will want to be aware of and ask what you want to ask. This will dive deeper into the conversation, resulting in a lot of posts and forum ca$h :yup:. Threads that are questions usually are very popular.

    Tip #3 Debate It! <3

    The Debate It! section is something that I really like. It allows members to express their opinions on controversial topics. Also, since there are moderators and rules, members don't get yelled at, flamed, or cause drama without getting consequences. While you are in this section, be careful yet have fun! You can learn, express, debate, and see different perspectives.

    Tip #4 Guides

    I love to see newer members contributing to the forum, especially very early. Guides are the ultimate best way to increase your post count, possibly even your forum cash counter, maybe reputation points, and of course, your reputation around the forum. In guides, it's about sharing knowledge to other members around the forum and helping them. The more guides, the better. :kiss:

    Tip #5 Easy +1 Forum Cash Gainers Daily


    Tip #6 Learn to love the EDIT BUTTON!!

    This button may not be your favorite, but it can save you a lot of trouble from getting flamed, banned, and other bad stuff. Use it whenever you need to add to your post, edit something you shouldn't have written, update something, and other stuff that saves you and your ass from burning. LEARN TO LOVE IT <3, cause you will need to!

    Tip # 7 Homework and Help Sections

    Why not show off how sexy you are with your knowledge? Not only might you get rep, you get the girls. :yup: :kiss: :p Also, in the Help Section, you can answer a lot of easy questions that newer members may have to ask.


    This is what you SHOULD NOT do.

    DON'T #1 Dumb Posts

    Dumb posts are when you are posting short little pointless fragments or short sentences that mean and do nothing to move the conversation. It is obvious that you are trying to gain post count, not actually talking to the community. If you do this, expect mods to contact you, other members to complain about you, and expect yourself to be very unpopular around the forum.

    Example: Lol, me 2! Cool!

    DON'T #2 Sh*tty Threads/Topics

    Just like dumb posts ^, crappy topics are not appreciated either. If you plan to make a topic, make sure it is something that people will care about. Threads that don't have a point make you unpopular among the forum especially when you keep doing it.

    DON'T #3 Thank You's

    This is another category that falls under dumb posts, but I would like to address separately. Just saying "thanks" or "thanks for the guide" is something very annoying. If you are planning to post "thanks", you better have something to comment on, critique on, or something that can elaborate on your "thanks". If you say +rep, explain why. Don't just put thank you and leave it at there.


    DON'T #4 Spamming

    A lot of spammers don't spam "obviously", they do things like answer every thread that they can with pointless posts that they think they can "get away" with. Spam doesn't have to be shit to be considered spam. This goes back to Tip #1, be genuinely interested in a topic if you really want to post in it. If not, just leave the thread as is and find one that you can talk in. In my opinion, spamming is the worst thing a newbie can do. It shows that they don't really care for the community.

    DON'T #5 Don't be a bad person!

    A bad person, meaning that you are just causing drama, arguing, all that stuff. If you are such a person, we don't want you here. When you have a different opinion with other members, don't argue, just share your own thoughts and compare. If you want others' respect, respect them first. If you do so, you are on the road to a great time here.

    Introduction
    Welcome to my guide to writing guides. This guide can be for those beginners or even more advanced writers looking at others' opinions and styles.
    I just want to share my ideas and tips to everybody of this community. :)

    What is a guide?
    A guide is a post/thread here in the forum that shares one's knowledge and thoughts about a topic with the community. It is also considered a good act to write an ORIGINAL good guide (you will learn in this guide ;) ) that shows you are willing to share your own knowledge to help the members of the forum.

    When do you write a guide?
    Before writing a guide, you want to look for other members that may have already posted a guide on the topic you were planning to write about. If you see that that guide is missing some important information, you might want to write a guide of your own that includes everything! If there isn't a guide on your planned topic, even better :) !

    Why write a guide?
    It is up to you whether to write a guide or not. Writing a guide is your choice, for your own reasons. Whether it is just good from your heart, +rep, +cash, or for the Content Contributor Award.



    The Text
    The text is usually your main form of explanation and communication with the reader. It needs to be very straightfoward, clear, and ellaborating. What I mean by ellaborating is going on to explain in detail what you just said, like I'm doing now. When you write a good guide, you usually write more than you planned. It helps make the reader 100% clear of what you're getting at. Hey, and don't try to make a guide in one day because it most likely won't be as thorough and high-quality as you want it to be. Usually, you want it to be revised several times before you make it. Also, humor is good in guides if it fits; some guides don't work well with humor. Even some smilies ;)



    The Visuals
    Visuals are very important. Remember, pictures can equal a thousand words or more. Pictures can be used to describe what words (or too many words) can't. Make the point of the visual very clear by highlighting what needs to be mainly looked at by the reader. Have these whenever you can because it really helps clear up things. Or, you can even write a whole guide without words, just PICTURES! Yeah, a lot of work, but trust me, very rewarding :)



    Quality NOT [strike]Quantity[/strike]
    When you are writing guides, don't think about making more than the one you are on. It doesn't matter about how many guides you make, it matters how good they are. They best situation is quality & quantity living happily ever after, but that is fairy tales :X: . I'd say: 1 high-quality guide > 999,999,999,999,999,999,999 bad guides. You'd probably get better rewards with the one quality guide anyways. Also, the outstanding guides that you want to write does not happen in a day. Even for me, my typing speed averages at 100 wpm, takes me about a week to write one of my long, better guides.



    Style
    This matters from person to person, but there are several keys and several do's and don't's. It is important that your design is simple. You don't need rainbow-colored text. For me, I like bold, underline, one-color title with plain text. More text sizes, to me, is better than too many colors. Also, try to avoid really bright colors that are unreadable for your text (or just avoid colors altogether for your text). Titles, you can make a little more fancy. Using some bold, italics, underline, and strike in your text would be good too. It's also important to develop your own style and format, and if it looks good for you, it'll probably look good for us.

    Basic skeleton for your format:
    -Introduction
    -Table of Contents
    -Conclusion
    -Credits



    Buttons!
    Buttons are important when it comes to guides. Here are them, and their good uses:

    -Preview: This is good for looking at how far along your guide is doing, and how your design is. It also helps you take a final look before you post.
    -Save/Load: These buttons are important. If you plan on sleeping or doing activities between sessions at the computer, these would be very useful. It usually takes me many days to complete one guide, seeing the length of them. For that reason, I use the Save/Load buttons A LOT!
    -Submit: This is a tempting button, and you should press it only when you know you are 100% ready and satisfied with your guide. This is like presenting your work and released to the public.
    -Edit: This button is available when you have posted your guide. It is when you are looking over your completed guide and find a mistake. This may also be used if another member spots a mistake that you made.



    Conclusion
    I know, not the super-long guide that you expected. I just had some stuff that I wanted to share, and I just have some final words. Just let the guide flow from your fingers, that's how my guides come to me. Hope you guys liked it :)

    Yeah, I love these making these guides because it's just something to do, and when it is finished, there's a feeling of accomplishment :lol:,

    I really do suggest this to be moved as a global announcment.
    Or atleast a link somewhere on the site going 'JUST STARTED? *CLICK HERE*' etcetc

    The amount of teh noobs asking how to get points is surprising (was me at one point)

    This guide is really great, after reading this guide, you understand how to behave on this board, I'd recommend that it should be the first thing a newbie should see whenever one joins.

    I think you should also add that there is a chat on neofriends, it actually took me some time to find it...
    Well maybe I'm the only one to stupid to scroll down, but on the other hand it wouldn't be much of an effort to add that.

    I'm almost done completing this guide so once I finish, you can move it back to the Global Announcements or what not and just lock it up ;)
