Really Quick Starry Background.

    First make a new document any size, and than go grab a planet render (Moon, earth, mars, jupiter, manmade etc etc), heres the one I'll be using.

    MAKE SURE YOU SAVE! IF YOU DON'T IT WON'T HAVE TRANSPARENCY!

    I won't be using the whole thing only part of it.

    make a new layer and fill it with black.

    go to filter>noise>add noise
    use the following settings.
    Amount>15%
    Distribution>Gaussian
    Monochromatic>Checked

    Put the planet layer on top of the star layer.

    There ya go, quick and easy stars, if you want you can add a little lens flare for that extra effect, heres my result.

    Thats good but thats too many stars...

    add a levels on it and it would look better.
